FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY EVALUATION IN HEART DISEASE AND DETERMINATION OF RETURN TO WORK |
|||
Functional capacity, one of the cornerstones of cardiovascular diagnosis, was formerly determined by evaluating patient symptoms during "ordinary" activity; exercise testing is now the method of choice. Exercise capacity is clinically quantified as peak oxygen uptake in multiples of resting uptake, named metabolic units (METS). Funtional Capacity Evaluation (FCE) in heart disease is the determination of return of work status. FCE is also performed prior to return to work in orthopedic neurologic and musculo skeletal injuries. |
