| INTRODUCTIONFibromyalgia consists
of the constellation of symptoms that includes chronic pain in the muscles and soft
tissues but spares the joints. The pain is accompanied often BY morning stiffness,
fatigue, sleep disturbances, and depression. The prevalence is estimated at 2% for the
general population and 20% for patients with rheumatic disease. Fibromyalgia occurs
predominantly in women and is rarely reported in children.
Fibromyalgia symptoms remain constant, but they are exacerbated by cold, stress, or physical inactivity. Most patients experience pain daily, but do not develop other somatic diseases which could account for the soft tissue pain. TREATMENT There is no cure for fibromyalgia.
